Well, the season has begun at TIEC, so time to get caught up. First, according to the 4/15/2016 press release, Tryon Equestrian Partners recently acquired Cleghorn Plantation & Country Club located in Rutherfordton, NC, only 6.5 miles from TIEC, hoping in part to draw more people to the “range of recreational amenities available at Tryon Resort and the foothills region,” stated Mark Bellissimo, Managing Partner. The 18-hole Cleghorn course will sport a new name: The Fairways at Tryon Resort. The historic plantation house, standing since 1837, will become a farm-to-table restaurant once restored.
With respect to current competitions, according to a 4/22/2016 press release, Ashley Holzer and Dressed in Black won the first ever FEI Grand Prix CDI 3* at TIEC. After concluding the winter circuit in Wellington, FL, Holzer and some of her students made way to TIEC. One of her students, Chris Von Martels, placed second on Divertimento, owned by Lovsta Stuteri. Holzer and her students were all impressed by the TIEC and “what the facility means for equestrian sport, as a whole.” They all felt that the stop at TIEC was well worth it as they continued their trek home (Canada) for the rest of the spring and summer seasons. As for FEI Prix St. Georges CDI 3*, Emily Miles (USA) and Floretienne won with Lindsay Kellock (Canada) and Royal Prinz placing second.
Also, according to a 4/22/2016 press release, TIEC will offer “major competition upgrades for the 2016 Tryon Summer Series,” increasing competition opportunities “for hunter and jumper competitors planning to attend the four week series” that runs from 6/29/2016 to 7/24/2016–four weeks “of FEI classes alongside nationally rated hunter and jumper competition.”
According to the 4/29/2016 press release, 5/4/2016 brings the first international competition of the season, but don’t forget the wildly popular “Saturday Night Lights” series for “spectators and visitors” that starts 5/7/2016. Project X will be performing live music throughout that evening. A seventh restaurant will be opening that weekend, the Siesta Cantina, along with the grand opening of the General Store. There also will be the “Great Charity Challenge” on 7/1/2016 that will support local charities “through a competitive and themed equestrian relay race.”
So many things to do at TIEC. Surely, something for everyone, so plan your visit today!
